- Invitations for the baby shower need to be sent out in a timely manner so the guests will have enough time to RSVP
- Be sure the invitations include directions as well as a phone number
- When the guests arrive at the baby shower, each should be personally greeted and thanked for coming
- If more than 10 people will be at the shower, provide name tags so people can get to know one another easier
- As the guests become arriving, make sure you introduce them to other guests, making them feel comfortable. If possible, try to seat or at least introduce guests that are around the same age or have common interests.
- If a meal will be served, be sure there is adequate seating for everyone. It may be that you need to rent folding tables and chairs. Unless the baby shower is just immediate family and very, close friends, you do not want people sitting with plates of food in their lap.
- When it is time for the expectant mother to open gifts, bring them to her so she does not have to carry anything or even more.
- As each gift is open, write down the name of the giver and the type of gift so the couple will have a list to use for sending thank you notes.
- For the party favors, always have several extra on hand.
- Be sure the baby shower starts on time. If the shower is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., be sure it starts no later than 5:10 p.m.
- Keep the baby shower moving at a nice pace so guests are comfortable and not rush but also not just sitting with nothing to do.
- When the baby shower is over, walk each guest to the door, thanking him or her for coming.

- As the host, it is important that you stay involved with the baby shower, being ready and able to assist wherever and whenever needed
- Never eat before anyone else. You should serve the expectant parents first, followed by the guests, and you last.
- Never leave the baby shower until all guests have gone.
- When creating the guest list, include the people the mother and father-to-be want invited, not who you think should be there.
- Never forget to thank the guests for coming.

Traditional Baby Shower Rules
Typically, the baby shower would be hosted by a close friend of the expectant mother. However, today it is perfectly fine for other friends, co-workers, mothers and mother in laws, sisters, and cousins to serve as host.
The baby shower is usually hosted between the seventh and ninth month of pregnancy although it can be held sooner or even after the baby is born. Regardless, the best option is to work with the expectant mother to see what works best for her.
Although most baby showers are held in a private home, they can also be held in churches, local parks, restaurants, and so on. The location would depend on the number of guests and the budget. For example, if the shower will be large, then using someone’s backyard or a local park for a barbecue or luau may be an excellent option.
