Finding the Right Neutral Baby Shower Gift

Choosing a baby shower gift for a friend can be difficult, especially if you are purchasing a gender-neutral gift.

There are so many different choices and what colors are you supposed to choose if you do not know the baby`s gender?

Selecting A Neutral Baby Shower Gift

The only practical reason for a parent to strictly dress their baby in boy or girl clothing is to make it easier for others to tell the difference.

If this still concerns you, rest assured that there are many options for gender-neutral gifts.

One solution is to choose gender-neutral colors or any color that is not pink or blue. Red, green, orange, purple and yellow are all pretty much gender neutral.

Something to keep in mind is that babies love staring at large, contrasting patterns. Look for black and white clothing with easily distinguishable patterns (like hound`s-tooth or large plaid).

You could also buy clothing illustrated with animals. Footy pajamas that have zebras and giraffes prints or a hat that has a koala face and ears are adorable and gender neutral. Blankets or pillows decorated with baby animals are also great choices.

Toys Can Be A Great Neutral Baby Shower Gift

Another option is to buy toys, books or stuffed animals. Most baby toys are gender neutral. You can usually find an age range on the toy`s label that states for which ages the toy is appropriate. Try to pick out a toy with the widest age range possible. Consider purchasing a cloth book. The parents-to-be will be able to read the book to their child before bedtime for years to come.

Going Practical With Your Baby Shower Gift

Practical objects also make fabulous gender-neutral gifts. Functional items and supplies, such as diapers, pacifiers, blankets, towels, bottles, teething rings, diaper disposal systems, wet wipes, rocking chairs, baby carriers, baby slings, car-seats, highchairs, strollers, diaper bags, food processors and baby food will help out the parents in more ways than you can imagine.

Even though these kinds of gifts seem less fun or exciting, you will be eliminating one more thing that the parents must budget for or worry about.

Consider buying a baby shower gift for the parents instead of the baby. During the first few months of the baby`s life, the baby`s caretakers will be getting very little sleep or time for themselves. Try getting them something to help them unwind, such as bubble bath products, scented candles or an album with relaxing music. You could also offer to baby-sit.

If all else fails, give the parents-to-be what they really need – money. An envelope with cash or a check and a nice card will definitely be appreciated. You could also let them pick out the gifts themselves. Give them gift cards with a note that says, “this is for a new stroller” or hand them some free boots vouchers.

Whichever gift you select, the parents-to-be will be extremely grateful for the thought and time that you put into picking out the perfect present.
