Should You Use A Baby Shower Gift Registry

This is another one of those fun decisions that involve the mother-to-be, and probably the father-to-be, when deciding on whether or not to use a baby shower gift registry.

Benefits Of A Baby Shower Gift Registry

  1. What will the parents-to-be really need as a gift for their newborn?
  2. What baby shower gifts have already been purchased by other invitees?
  3. What amount of money should you spend what is really appropriate?

So with all of this pointing in favor of using a baby shower gift registry, why might a baby shower host decide against using one?

When A Baby Shower Gift Registry May Not Be Right

The most basic reason is simply this preference.

Some baby shower hosts simply don’t want to limit the range of things that guests might purchase for the mother-to-be; especially when you can get some very unique gifts that are not actually found in stores that offer a baby shower gift registry.

For example, you might have a baby shower guest that is very artistic who wants to create that something very special for the newborn baby, like a wooden mobile, or a beautiful picture to hang in the baby’s room.

These sorts of gifts, by definition, will not appear on any baby shower gift registry; and so the parents-to-be might wish to avoid using one for this simple reason.

Cost Can Be a Concern With a Baby Shower Gift Registry

Another major reason is that of the cost involved.  Depending on the number of people invited to the baby shower, and assuming that those that have been invited to the baby shower are coming, then there may be some awkwardness if the baby shower registry contains gifts that could be outside of a person’s budget.

This can indeed be awkward not only for the mother-to-be but the guest as well.

Lets take a look at one scenario, if one fifth of the gifts in the baby shower registry are under, and as an example lets say, $30, then there is some possibility that these gifts will be the first to be purchased will be snatched up first; thus leaving a latecomer to buy something more expensive, or risk buying something that isn’t on the registry at all and therefore might not be wanted by the parents.

To help deal with this situation, it’s possible for you (as the baby shower hostess)  to informally recommend that people join together to buy any bigger ticket items, like a crib or a baby stroller that may be listed at the baby shower gift registry.

By doing this , the guests can still remain inside their personal budgets and without any embarrassment, yet purchase something that the parents want, and definitely need (since newborn babies can be very expensive!).
